Fellowships - PIK Global Governance Project

The Global Governance Project at the Potsdam Institute for
Climate Impact Research (PIK), together with the Environmental Policy
Research Unit of the Free University of Berlin, invites applications 
for three 2.5-year fellowships within its new sub-project 
"Managers of Global Change (MANUS): Effectiveness
and Learning of International (Environmental)
Organisations".

The three-year sub-project is funded by the Volkswagen
Foundation. It will combine social science research with qualitative 
modelling to identify factors that influence the effectiveness of 
intergovernmental organisations, such as the United Nations Environment 
Programme or the climate convention secretariat. 
Case study data will be integrated in a modelling approach to
generate general conclusions regarding the design of
intergovernmental organisations. 
Applications are invited for the following positions
starting 1 March 2002:

Pre-doctoral Research Fellow in International Relations

Research tasks: The Fellow will conduct case studies on selected
international environmental organisations; assist in
developing tools to measure the effectiveness of organisations 
from the perspective of international relations;
and contribute to the development of a qualitative model of
the internal and external factors governing the effectiveness of
organisations and their capabilities of learning.
Required skills: Master's degree in political or social
sciences, experiences in qualitative social science research,
interest in interdisciplinary research in collaboration with natural scientists.

Pre-doctoral Research Fellow in Management Studies

Research tasks: The Fellow will conduct case studies on selected
international environmental organisations; focus on
management aspects and on processes of organisational learning in 
the organisations analysed in the project; and
contribute to the development of a qualitative model of the
internal and external factors governing the effectiveness of
organisations and their capabilities of learning.
Required skills: Master's degree in business administration, economics or
political sciences; experiences in qualitative social science research;
interest in interdisciplinary research in collaboration
with natural scientists.

Pre-doctoral Research Fellow in Qualitative Modelling

Research tasks: The Fellow will contribute to the design,
updating and processing of the qualitative model and of the conceptual
framework. (S)he could also be involved in related other research projects at
PIK.
Required skills: Master's degree in informatics,
mathematics, physics or another discipline with a relevant modelling component;
skills and experience in modelling. Experiences in interdisciplinary research or
in
global change research are an asset.

The working language of PIK is English. Experiences in the
work of international organisations are an asset. Fellows will
receive a pre-doctoral monthly stipend of ?900 plus ?100 research expenses. from
the
Volkswagen Foundation.

It is encouraged that all pre-doctoral Fellows will
finalise a doctoral dissertation based on research done during their
fellowship. Positions will start (preferably) on 
1 March 2002 and run through 31 August 2004, pending final

Kedves Desi Imre,

Elnezesedet kerem, egy "tuzoltomunka" szakadt a nyakamba, a maganlevelezesre
mondhatok nemet, a fonokomnek nem.
Orulok, hogy felvetted a kesztyut, Te vagy az egyetlen, de talan valaki mas
is csatlakozik majd. Eddig valahanyszor egy  vitaba beszalltam itt a
Kornyeszen, mindig gazdagabb lettem. Egy-ket ellenseggel, par jo poennal,
alkalmasint tanultam is a dologbol.

Ket csoportba osztanam ellenerveidet. Az elso hogy a genbeultetes soran mast
is beultetunk a cel-DNSbe. Nem tudom, hogy ez mindig igy van-e, de en is azt
hallottam, hogy jo esely van ra. Azt irod, hogy a jarulekos virusdarabok
aztan beepulnek-hetnek a fogyaszoba. Hmmm!
Persze volt mar ilyesfele, nem is olyan regen tortent hogy az egyebkent sem
tul gusztusos angol fott marhahus meg visszataszitobba valt. Ez azert eleg
massziv probalkozast igenyelt, ipari meretekben marhahus-hulladekot etetni
marhakkal. Es amit igy sikerult felhizlalni az, ha jol tudom meg csak nem is
virus volt, hanem egy annal egyszerubb joszag. Meg ne kerdezd tolem mi az a
"prion"!
Ahhoz, hogy valami belem epuljon ahhoz vagy diszno nagy szerencsejenek kell
lennie, vagy nagyon jol kell hogy erezze magat bennem, hogy megerje neki
nagyban csinalni a dolgot. (egy-ket sejttel az immunrendszer, meg a
statisztika el tud banni)
Mekkora lehet az atfedes az en genallomanyom es a Hong-Kong 23B kozott?
Tudatlansagbol nincs job peldam, olyan virusra gondolok, amellyel mar
generaciok ota egyutt elunk.
A beepult virusdarab mint egy mutacio sarokkove. Kerdes, hogy a virusok azert
ilyen valtozekonyak, mert eredendoen instabilak, vagy mert "olyan rosszul
oltozottek".

Az ellenerveid/ellenerzeseid masik csoportja a biodiverzitas feltese.
A zaromondatod, hogy szintetikusan eloallitott ellenallobb fajtakkal
kiszoritjuk a kesobbi beultetes alapanyagaul szolgalu osi fajtakat, egy
nagyon frappans gondolat.
Azt hiszem az agyamat megindito radiohir celja az volt, hogy intenzivebb
vedelmet biztositsanak azon a teruleten. Nem a genmanipulalt kukorica ellen,
hanem a legelteto farmerek ellen! Nem attol pusztul az elovilag, hogy egy
biologiailag erosebb faj elveszi az eletteret a masiktol, hanem attol hogy mi
vesszuk el az eletteruket.
Ha szepen magukra hagynank oket, a regi fajok hamar osszekeverednenek a
(mesterseges) ujakkal.
Ezt az ervedet nem igazan tartom ervnek.

Nem genmanipulacio, csak valogatas
Nem bizonyitott az artalmatlansaga, csupan azon az idoskalan, ami a
valogatashoz szukseges nem latszanak karos hatasok.

Mara ennyi. Tudom, az erveim nem voltak acelosak. A Tieid sem. Edzzuk oket
tovabb!
