My Name is Pal Gyoni. I have been following this area off and on for a
little while.
I had access to this area through a freenet supplier which made it better
just to
read this group. Now that I am fully hooked to InterNet from home I felt I
might
like to join in the discution from,time to time..... So, with you or not
I'm happy to
make your aquaintence.
I am extremely glad that Hugh took the trouble of translating the passage in
question. I always read only references to it in secondary sources and the
last time I spent any time on this period was almost twenty years ago. So, I
may not have been entirely accurate but I was close. I am just as aware as
Hugh that Palacky is considered to be the greatest Czech historian of the
nineteenth century (I assume just as the Hungarian Gyula Szekfu3 of the
twentieth century). However, let's face it, this is nothing but nationalistic
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
drivel just as some of Ba1lint Ho1man's and Gyula Szekfu3's claims and
interpretations were a bunch of nationalistic junk. This is exactly the kind
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
of heritage we must get rid of in Eastern Europe. It will be hardgoing
because these attitudes are so ingrained. But if we don't, we will be in
trouble. I must say that at the moment Czech-Hungarian relations are
excellent--the best in centuries. It is maybe so, because there is now an
independent Slovakia between them.
Happy New Year Eva. Which brings me to my question. What year did
nationalizm become a one sided evil. In the life I've lived I have learned
that ALL
things are both good and evil. It's just a matter of degree and a question
of what
dirction the scale leans at any one particular time. I see your feelings
are strongly
against nationalism, as if it were an absolute and stuck in the evil camp.
I have to
inform you that this simply is NOT the case. If you have to asbility to be
objective
I'm sure you can think of at least a few good things nationalism represents
and can do.
Nationalism is both important and nessasary to a counrty with a long
history. A the
very least it can be a glue that binds in awful time and Poor Hungary has
see more
than her share. I'm even convinced that you posses a healthy dash of
nationalism... Yes you read right...!
If this were not the case you'd be insome other news group argueing about
cosmetics
or the weather.....hehehe.....!
Let's address the terrible state that the Comies and Socialists have left
the country in.
All those horrible long years of the `Socialist' <Yea Right..!>comies
helping the country
out of what ever wealth it still had and borrowing from the world to run
their backrupt
schemes all the while linning their own pockets. A good dose of healthy
nationalism
would not hurt to bring the people together to work hard to help each other
get out from
under the bankrupt legacy of the Socialist <COMIE> past.
There is nothing wrong with knowing who and what you are and being proud of
that.
except of course if you live in a coutry in the west where the line is
smudged...
There are no evil systems. Just evil people.
